BACKGROUND

We stumbled into the Tiny Wood Stove business after trying to source a stove for our Tiny Home a 1966 Airstream Travel Trailer. We wanted a modest sized wood burner for affordable off-grid dry heat. After searching the internet to find every possible solution we compiled a list of all the options. What we found was a bunch of stoves that were not ideal for our situation. They weren’t the right size, they didn’t have the right features or they were beyond our budget. So we set out to create the perfect stove for small spaces. The Dwarf is efficient, durable and affordable!

BODY CONSTRUCTION

The sturdy body is made of thick 3/16″ – 5/16th Steel Plate.

DOOR

The door is made of high-quality cast iron with a large fire viewing window for a classy look while providing optimal heat retention.

FLUE OUTLET

The 4” flue outlet can exit out the top or the rear of the stove depending on your needs. Exiting out the rear of the stove allows the entire top surface to be used as a cooking surface while exiting out the top of the stove allows are tighter installation with less clearances.

AIR CONTROLS

The Dwarf gives you complete control over primary, secondary and tertiary air supplies. The airtight primary and secondary air are controlled by separate levers on the bottom of the stove and the tertiary air-wash is controlled by a slide valve just above the door.

FIREBOX

The Dwarf firebox is made of durable cast iron and refractory fire brick. Cast iron is very durable for continuous use, and the fire bricks reflect heat back into the firebox for a more efficient burn.

BURNS CHUNKS OF WOOD: 8-10″ Long

RIDDLING GRATE + ASH PAN

The bottom of the firebox is a cast iron grate with a mechanical lever (located lower left of door) that engages the floor of the grate sifting out ash from the firebox. This handy feature is a must for coal, and helps to quickly and efficiently clean out the firebox. Below the grate is a removable ash pan for easy disposal.

OPTIONAL ADD-ONS

You can customize the look of your stove by adding the tall cast iron legs or wood storage stand. Enamel doors are available in your choice of colors.  Factory heat shields are available for clearance reduction.

CLEARANCES

16” sides, 18” rear, 36″ top to ceiling. You can reduce required clearances by up to 2/3 with a properly designed heat shield.

FUELS

The Dwarf can safely burn wood, coal or compressed logs up to 10 inches long.

We LOVE our dwarf 4kw tiny wood stove. We’re really happy with the build quality, design and performance and it’s hands down our FAVORITE part of our bus.

We installed it in our 31 ft. converted prison bus tiny home about eight months ago. After traveling early this year, we spent two months in northern New Hampshire winter temperatures. The 4kw kept us very warm & comfortable. We actually really enjoyed using and tending to it.

Installation of our stove was simple and straightforward; everything you need is provided in their install kit.

We went with an enameled door and LOVE it.

Purchased a Dwarf 4K to replace an existing wood-coal stove aboard our 50′ sailboat. I wanted to install the 5K version but it required different sized venting and deck hardware which would have added to the installation cost.
After some hemming and hawing typical of boaters, I decided on the Dwarf 4K. While we only used the original wood-coal stove as supplemental heat to our primary diesel heating system, the Dwarf 4K has actually become our primary heating source as it keeps the complete boat warm, dry and comfortable in temperatures down to 25F.
Below 25F the stove requires more close supervision and stoking throughout the night, but could keep the boat warm down to an outside temp of 20F dependent on firewood type. Hardwood seems to be the best wood for the longest burn but requires more labor to get it to a functional size. The smaller compressed wood byproduct bricks work well but are tricky to adjust for a slower burn, having a tendency to burn quicker than firewood. We keep a MAP torch handy for lighting the kindling and preheating the flue in order to get a non-smokey startup.
Overall we’re happy with the Dwarf. I’d offer a few extras for boat owners like a hot water coil and a pot rail common on boat installations. There are smaller products on the market but the Dwarf 4K just the right size to have a lasting burn time to make it through the night which makes it a good choice for boaters.

The stove is working great. It was installed in a 12′ x 16′ cabin with walls and ceiling insulated with R-13, no insulation in floor, which is elevated about 16″ off of ground. Stove produces enough heat to be uncomfortable when run hot but is good when dampened down heavily and almost lasts through night.

Customer service was best I’ve ever experienced. I regularly had Tiny Wood Stove contacting me to make sure everything was going well. I was able to return products with no issues and was allowed plenty of time to do so. I’m very pleased with my experience with TWS, thanks a ton!

The stove is the perfect size for my application. I’ve been building a super insulated ~450ft.^2 home in remote Alaska’s sub-arctic. This winter the temperatures were -50F at my door. I use an oil stove to maintain heat when I’m gone and the wood stove works great when I’m there. I’ve found the controls to quite good, and the wood that I’ve used thus far has been burned quite efficiently. Again, for my super insulated small cabin…this stove works great. House specs: ~ 450ft.^2; R-45 Wall, R70-Roof/ceiling, R-40 floor. Also their customer service was quite good.

Stove has been up and running for a few months now. The quality of all the parts and stove itself are excellent. Should last for many, many years to come. Thanks for all the help to get this up and running. I write this as I sip coffee in front of our little stove, on this frosty morning in Pennsylvania. The only thing I added was a spring handle to make the handle more user friendly. I use this as a primary heat source on our 750 sq foot home, and it does a great job heating the house. We have electric heat, however with this stove now installed we are saving approximately $200 a month on our electric bill during winter. The setup will pay for itself in no time.

High quality stove works very well in my 27′ travel trailer. Surprising heat output from a small device.

The calculator says I could have used a 3kW stove but I am glad I chose the 4kW. Don’t be a cheap skate with the installation. Get the kit and do it right.

My stove sits on the floor so I am definitely glad I got the taller legs. Great stove, great customer support. Highly recommended.

Excellent product, well-made, everything as advertised. My only dissatisfaction is with the fact that parts seem to be often “out of stock” causing delays. Customer service and communication was otherwise great, however. So I would highly recommend the product, just plan to order well in advance if you are on a construction schedule, as some parts may take a few weeks to arrive. There are a few stoves on the market, but this one is functional as well as physically beautiful. Love the glass door adding light and beauty to the room. We really like our tiny wood stove.

I bought the 4kW Dwarf. I am really enjoying it and the folks at Tiny Wood Stove were great, from ordering to delivery and setup. I installed it in in our 1890’s refurbished fireplace. After years of trouble with the old fireplace not drafting well, I had almost given up on it. Now it’s great.

i LOVE my dwarf 4kw tiny stove!! living in a 265 square foot yome (part yurt, part geodesic dome) in the northeast wood heat was really the only way to stay warm in winter… and in doing the research, the dwarf was really the only option – everything else is huge…

ordering was seamless and the crew is super helpful with any questions you have, installing the stove was pretty straightforward for a complete newbie as the manual is clear and concise… its extremely high quality – all parts and materials were top notch, brilliantly designed, well packaged and beautiful!

the dwarf has kept my space toasty thru some pretty frigid weather and i truly have fallen in love with this tiny stove in the course of learning how to install it, use it well, and maintain it properly… i am deeply grateful to all at tinywoodstove.com for providing such a resource to those with small spaces!

i’ve been using seasoned ash wood from our land here, but also have supplemented with envi-8 blocks and found those work awesome too, providing extended burn time and a great backup when the wood is running low… the dwarf and tending a fire has taught me so much just about life – for anyone even considering a small stove THIS IS THE ONE!!

    endless thanks, Shanti

Stove works great, heats a 200 SQ cabin with ease. Built an elevated steel table to hold the stove and store boots and wood underneath.

Really love this stove, I was considering building one and glad I didn’t. Impressed with the heavy wall 4” pipe and the insulated pipe.

The folks at Tiny Wood Stove are amazing! Their customer service is top notch, always eager to assist in any way they can to assure your project is successful. In my case in particular, they have been especially generous regarding returns and exchanges as my installation needs shifted during construction. The stove itself as well as the third-party flue parts they sell are all made with obvious quality and attention to detail. I am very eager to actually fire it up but that will have to wait until more of my tiny house project is built (a slow-moving endeavor fit in around the rest of life’s demands) such that I may safely install and operate the stove.

Our 4kW stove has been installed since August 2019 and it fits perfectly in our 200 sq ft permitted “shed”. We’ve used it a number of times and it works very well. It does take about an hour to heat the place in the winter as we’re right on Hood Canal which is extremely damp in winter months. But we love it. Our contractor said it was easy to install

After using our stove in our bus for the last 7 months, I can say with confidence this is the BEST woodstove I have ever had. The air adjustments allow us to set the stove up and just let it warm us through the chilly nights. Compared to other stoves in friends busses I am so glad I chose this one and not the other companies out there.

My wife and I absolutely love our Dwarf 4k stove. We purchased it last summer and installed it in our 38′ Thomas school bus. We used it nearly every night throughout this past winter, and it kept us roasty toasty. I’ve given countless tours of our bus, and the Dwarf 4k is easily the most discussed item. Most folks are blown away that we have a real wood burning stove inside the converted bus! The ambiance and warmth provided on a cold night is unparalleled.

We looked at other stoves before purchasing, but we loved the fact that Tiny Wood Stove was a one-stop shop. The price was right, and we didn’t need to purchase parts from multiple sources. Tiny Wood Stove’s videos and booklet make assembly and installation very simple.

Lastly, the folks at Tiny Wood Stove have been fantastic. We’ve worked with Elizabeth, Dan, and Cody and all were very helpful through the purchasing and install process.

We spent half the winter with an oil filled heater before we could install our stove. It kept us from freezing but that’s about it! There would always be condensation on the windows (we live in the Sierra Foothills, so it’s not particularly humid here). The first time we fired up the stove, it was such a joy to watch the temps rise and the humidity drop! I haven’t worried about humidity since! Our guests’ first comments are always, “Oh that is so cute!” And while it is, it’s also a beast! It can raise the temp in our 24′ tiny 20 degrees F in less than an hour. (Pro tip: a fan and a cracked window will help air circulation and lower humidity faster. We don’t have an air intake, so cracking a window is necessary. Our CO2 detector has never gone off.) Aside from the product, the team at Tiny Wood Stove was attentive and so helpful. They really went above and beyond. We can changed plans and so had to send some things back and it was totally painless. When we had a question about install, we sent pictures and they responded quickly. Easy and honest folks to work with.

Small stoves inherently won’t burn as long as big ones because there’s only a fraction of the material in the box. I’ve heard complaints about other brands of small stoves needing tending every hour and that is not the case with this stove. It won’t burn through the night, but it will still be pretty dang warm in the morning! We’ve even had some glowing coals, depending on what type of wood we are using.

It’s a great little stove and the best on the market for small spaces. Plus you can feel good for supporting a small, family owned business in the US. I’m glad we went with Tiny Wood Stove.

I’ve had this stove for two winters now in Ohio. I’ve had zero problems with it. I burn eco-brick pressed wood blocks in it. Don’t let this stove fool you… I’ve had it up to 700 degrees at times not paying attention. The best way to cool it back down is open the door wide open. Once you get the hang of the controls, it’s a wonderful stove. I looked into the Hobbit stove as well. The Hobbit is more appealing and less money but the dial control and door handle requires a glove to operate. Not sure the extra $400 was worth that convenience, but I’ve got this stove and I’d give it a 85 out of 100

I live in a 5th wheel camper in the middle of the woods in New-York Long Island, and I purchased this stove last year because we get a lot of cold and damp weather in the winter to the point where it hurts your bones.

I have been using wood stoves since I was a kid, so I know what I’m talking about and wanted to say to everyone that this stove works and heats just like a normal-sized wood stove, last year as it kept my camper warm and toasty all winter long and it held up very well.

I waited until this winter to give you my honest opinion on the stove so that I could be sure it would handle the second year just as well as it did the first year, so far it has been great with the quality and craftsmanship of this little stove is just fantastic.

I would highly recommend to anyone that is looking for a good wood stove for their small house or RV to buy this stove!

    PS.
I will be buying a second stove for another RV that I own soon.

    Thank you very much,

I’ve been very happy with our Dwarf 4K, which I installed in our shed (partly to get a diesel generator warm if needed in winter, partly as an escape from the house in the time of COVID). The Tiny Wood Stove website, videos and written instructions were very helpful teaching me all I needed to know for installing the stove and flue system by myself, and the customer service was very responsive and helpful both before and after delivery. The starter kit for the flue system made things much simpler too. The stove throws out nice heat. Even in my totally uninsulated shed, it raises the temperature a good 30+ degrees within about two hours, and my wife and young son have had a great time making coffee and hot chocolate on the stove so far.

It has been in use for a couple of months and I enjoy it immensely.
It heats the place completely and keeps that moist feeling of a trailer away. I have a drying rack installed behind it.
I’ve been burning Doug Fir. You mentioned the smaller stoves running hot but it’s difficult to run the flue temperature toward the higher end of “Just Right”. There’s no need though because it will run you out of this 45′ 5th wheel with 4 slide outs even at lower “just right” temps.
The wood stove in this trailer makes the structure not so much a trailer but more of a home.
The manual you sent is well written and as you say in the beginning it was a great advantage to reading it cover to cover before installation.
The heat deflectors are peace of mind and you can lay your hand on any surface surrounding the stove. Even the dual insulated pipe can be touched. It’s warm though but won’t injure.
Ordering parts using your planning aids made the design, purchase and shipping flawless. The only shipping mistake was mine.
I highly recommend The Tiny Wood Stove Company and its products. (I need a 4″ flue brush in the future.)
Something that I didn’t take a picture of is a wall mount fan that is run by a thermostat at the highest point of the living space. The fan turns on at 79 degrees and turns off at 70 degrees. That way it circulates the hot air to the lower rear of the caravan and shuts off when the fire burns down at night.

It is really quite fantastic. I have used quite a few stoves in the past and your product excels in many ways. It simply WORKS very, very well. Easy to get a fire going, many ways to control airflow and temp, a beautiful glass window for a cheerful flame on a cold wet night, and the most soothing warmth possible.

I could not be more pleased with your product and the pricing is very fair for the quality and reliability provided. Your stove is my sole source of heat and I have cooked many meals on top as well with a cast iron skillet. I like the option of the stove pipe coming off the rear to provide more usable space on top.

I have a 12ft by 20ft off grid place on Washington coast. 10ft walls, 4 inches thick, 13ft peak, 6 inch thick roof. All insulated. I looked at every stove on market. Chose dwarf 4kw because large viewing glass, direct air intake option, and looked to be greatly built. I was amazed at the stove when arrived. Even more than what i expected. The stove pipe is great quality also. The stove has 3 different air intakes and control is great. Heats place up quick. Very efficient on wood burn. Id buy again. Side note, customer support is great. I tested out when fedex lost a box. Hope this helps.

I’m an electrical Contractor here in the Northeastern USA. Over the years, I’ve earned the name, ” Picky Nicky”. Yes… I’m particular and believe workmanship and customer care is of upmost importance. Because of this, I think one should speak up, not only when something is amiss, but also when all is right. This company has been a real pleasure to deal with. They were very helpful with all of my questions and attentive with updates as to delivery. I didn’t need to harass them in the slightest as to my order’s arrival. I knew what to expect and when to expect it in advance. . The Dwarf 4kw and fresh air inlet came today… Perfect condition! A little damage to the cardboard near the handle but not a scratch on the unit. The crating was extremely sturdy and built to protect through the long journey which it did.. After opening the crate I have to say… This is no tin wall toy! My other small wood stove is a Jotul and it has nothing on this unit. It’s built like a tank, beautiful and of apparent high quality… can’t wait to fire it up !!! Thank you Nick, family and friends!!! Highly recommend these folks!!!

What kind of structure are you heating? Tiny House

The Dwarf 4kw wood stove has been one of the major highlights of our tiny house build. It works beautifully and keeps our 8×24 tiny house super cozy. Easy to use, well-packaged and shipped, very high quality and the customer service is everything. Can’t say enough GREAT things about the support and communication we received from beginning to end. Even with major, Covid-related supply chain issues – the folks at Tiny Wood Stove were super communicative and we had no doubt that our shipment would arrive exactly as ordered. Thank yall so much!!

This stove is fantastic! Every detail seems thoughtfully-designed and well-made.

I installed it in my 30′ Airstream here in Vermont, and although it’s still only November, we’ve had nights in the low teens and it’s kept the trailer plenty warm. I think any stove will be cold in the morning, but this one starts up very quickly, and with an upside-down fire (what a game changer!) I’ve gotten it to last about 5-6 hours (and that’s without compressed logs)

Installation was relatively easy and the customer support at Tiny Woodstove was first-rate: they were very communicative when an order was delayed due to the beloved covid supply chain, and they reached out afterwards to ask how the installation went.

Can’t recommend this product or company enough!

The Dwarf 4kw is amazing – it heats my tiny home perfectly, and it has created an ambience that I could not have imagined. It is very efficient, compact, and suits our needs. The staff at Tiny Woodstove have been incredible in supporting the install of this stove! Their manual helped me to determine proper spacing in my tiny house, and ensure that we had everything we needed for the installation. The written material they provide and that they have selected for their online resources have SO MUCH exciting information about burn efficiency, wood harvesting, installation, and long-burns (still figuring this one out for cold overnights haha!)

Anyways, I would recommend this stove and these manufacturers. Thank you guys so much!

What kind of structure are you heating? Cabin

I live in a 200 square ft cabin in Montana. Not exactly known for warmth here. Before finding this product I had the smallest wood stove I could find that was rated to 1500 Sq ft… obviously it was too much, but I found this and installed it this past summer and LOVE it. Wanted to wait on reviewing till I saw how it did through a Montana winter, but it is seriously perfect for me. Not too hot, certainly not too cold.
It takes roughly a half hour to warm up 15 degrees if I build the fire right, but it is well worth the wait. The tertiary air controls make my life so much easier (my last stove only had one), and it heats my place up to perfect temperatures, even in negative temps outside.
The only negative thing I have to say is I wish I bought the 5k purely for size of wood, but that was a risk that I decided was worth it. Couldn’t be happier with this stove, and will continue to recommend this to anyone who needs a smaller stove.

This wood stove has kept us very warm this winter. It was a little scary installing something like this and cutting a hole in the roof, I won’t lie! But it’s a game changer from the propane furnace. We burn north Idaho energy logs exclusively and they put out a lot of heat!

There’s so many people that have documented their installs that you can reference and the instructions are really good as well. You get almost everything you need minus roof sealer and some screws for your pipe boot.

Once we played with it a little bit we are able to stay warm off of 3 or 4 logs a day (they cost a little over a dollar each) which greatly reduced our costs for propane. The stove will really kick out some heat if you aren’t careful, so make sure you get a thermometer for it and adding a fan make such a huge difference.

There’s nothing quite like wood heat, it’s just bone warming. The first couple nights we used it I accidentally got us up to 93 degrees when it was 10 outside 🤣.

    Well worth the investment.

  34. Question

    Johann Schuster

What is the smallest hearth pad I can use with this? We are considering this for a new construction ‘tiny house’ guest house. I am considering the cement board/tile route underneath and along the wall up to the ceiling.

You’ll want to build a hearth under the stove at least 1/2″ thick. Most folks use cement backer board and then put a nicer, fire-proof material on top like heat-resistant tile. The hearth should extend 12″ in front of the stove and match the clearances on the sides. You can read more about hearths and clearances here.

I received my tiny stove and installation kit in late summer, just in time to get it installed and tested out before the cold hit. It is easy to use, easy to clean, and warms the yurt up well. I look forward to seeing how things go in the colder days of winter.

We installed this stove in a rustic backyard office shed. It’s perfect for such a small space, and creates amazing ambiance. Installation was very straightforward, and we did not hit any snags. One key note: if you have dogs, they will want to lay by the stove during cold days, so create your floor plan accordingly.
