❔How to make sure the heat from your Tiny Wood Stove reaches every corner of your Tiny Home🔥💨
While the key to heating your entire home with a Tiny Wood Stove is sizing, sometimes even the perfectly sized stove won’t heat up all your rooms or corners. This can be due to the layout of your home, location of the stove or sometimes just a weird draft.
Here’s what you can do to keep that heat moving through your home and everyone cozy (and not fighting about that one spot on the sofa that gets all the warmth and cozy) 😁
🚪 Location of the stove: This is the most important factor and includes the location within the layout of your home (the bedroom will stay cold if there’s a closed door), 🗄️ the elevation of the stove (heat travels up) and ↪️ the orientation of the stove. There will be more heat in the direction it’s pointed towards, see heat shields.
When planning your wood stove setup, keep in mind where the heat is moving naturally (Physics y’all!) and how to use that for heating every corner of your home. Also, make sure you’re considering other factors, like heat transfer to the fridge right next to the stove (#tinylivingproblems). The lower your stove sits to the ground, the more the heat will be distributed throughout the living space before moving up above where it’ll make a difference for anyone 5”7’ or shorter.
🧱 Heatshields: The job of a heathield is shielding the heat. Which is great for combustibles, not so great for heat transport. If your stove is shielded towards certain areas of your home, those will be slower to warm up than for example the areas the door is facing.
🌪️ Fans: Fans are a great way to move that heat towards areas of your home that don’t normally get the most of the wood stove heat. Stove-powered fans are a great way to move heat without the need for additional electricity, since they’re powered by the heat of the stove. Alternatively, small fans can be placed across from the stove or higher up to move the heat. Size your fan according to the size of your home to make sure it’s moving enough heat!
