Isabelle built her tiny house with her environmental footprint in mind. She has been using healthier materials (both for the environment and inhabitants) and is using her Dwarf 4kw to heat and reduce moisture.
Who are you? Tell us something about you!
I'm Isabelle Nagel-Brice and I have been living in the tiny house I built for four years. I also run A Tiny Good Thing where I offer consulting, high performance building materials, and other products related to small intentional living.
Where did you install your stove? Do you stay in cold climates much?
A tiny house. Yes, I installed the wood stove in Central Oregon, but now live in Portland.
How did your tiny living journey begin and what were your reasons?
I wanted to learn how to build a home and create a space that was designed and built by myself, my father, and other helping hands. I've always been interested in the meaning of home, and this little house is always home no matter where we are parked. I'm also very passionate about reducing my own environmental footprint and building with materials that are healthier for the Earth and the inhabitants of the home. I'm constantly becoming more inspired by building science and how we can build spaces that enable us to reduce our consumption and waste.
How did you decide on a Dwarf stove?
I needed a larger heat source in my house, missed building fires since I grew up with a fireplace, and wanted to add a dry heat to a small space where the humidity is often high.
How difficult was the installation process? Did you need any assistance of any kind?
I did the installation completely by myself except for the help I needed to lift the stove into my house. It was definitely easy!
How has your experience been using the Dwarf? Have you been enjoying having a tiny wood stove in your space?
Yes, I love having it! Honestly, I probably could have sized down because it gets really hot quickly when the stove is cranking.
Would you recommend a tiny wood stove to others? Why?
Yes, especially for small off-grid applications. I also really like the design and size options.
Would you like to add anything?
No, it's been a great little stove! No complaints except for that I had wanted to install a fresh air intake and the parts for it didn't work with the stove/flue configuration. I just crack a window since my house is built really air tight.
