Slowly but surely the days are warming up and not every morning needs a fire to heat up your space. But that doesn't mean your Tiny Wood Stove can't be the eye-catcher of your space! And that empty firewood storage? The perfect spot for storing your winter gear (if it can be closed off), or to keep your summer gear accessible.

Top exit or rear exit: what actually matters for your setup?
A top exit sends the flue straight up from the stove, keeping the setup simple and direct. That usually means stronger draft and an easier start, since hot air can rise without turns or resistance. It’s also the more compact option for smaller spaces.

With a rear exit the pipe comes off the back, which can help you work around tight spaces, walls, or layout constraints. It also keeps the entire stove top open, which is a big deal if you plan to cook. You get full use of that surface instead of losing space to the pipe.
The tradeoff is mostly about flow and layout. Adding turns or horizontal runs can slow things down a bit, so rear exits are often chosen for fit and function rather than pure performance. But it really comes down to how your space is built and how you plan to use the stove.
If you're planning on running a kettle or skillet on top you want a rear exit to keep that space clear.
If you're working with a tight install and want the simplest flue path the top exit keeps things straightforward.

Do you need a direct air intake for your Tiny Wood Stove setup?
If your space is tightly built—camper, tiny house, or well-insulated cabin—it’s usually a great upgrade. A direct air system feeds the fire with outside air instead of pulling from inside, which keeps the burn steady and reduces how much air gets pulled through your living space.
In more sealed builds, it can mean better combustion without needing to crack a window. In draftier setups like yurts or older cabins, it helps control airflow by sending outside air straight to the stove instead of dragging cold air through gaps.
It’s not strictly required, but it often leads to longer, more consistent fires and a more comfortable space overall.
