Sealant to use around flange? Exterior to wood siding, interior to drywall.

Thanks for the question, Sam. The only place where a particular kind of sealant is required is on the outside of the building where the pipe meets the thimble. Since that’s touching the pipe, it needs to be high-temp silicone.
For the exterior to wood siding, that area is outside the clearance to combustibles, so you can use any exterior sealant appropriate for metal and your siding material. Check your siding manufacturer for recommendations, or see what our local hardware store has in stock.
For the interior to drywall, sealant behind the flange is not required. But if you have a very airtight space and want a good seal, any interior caulk would be fine in that area.
