Who are you? Tell us something about you!

We are Davida and Casey, Davida is originally from Milan, Italy and I am from Connecticut.
We are both self employed and I often work from home.
I am a carpenter and Davida works with photography.
We also offers consultations about building a healthy / mold free tiny house.

Where did you install your stove? Do you stay in cold climates much?

We installed our Dwarf 5kw wood stove in our tiny house on wheels (built on a 10’x37’ gooseneck trailer).
We have currently set anchor in Western Massachusetts, were we experience relatively cold winters.

How did your tiny living journey begin and what were your reasons?

It started quite organically, we both were looking into affordable living options, and we came across the tiny house movement few years ago, and both found it intriguing. We talked about it, and we started the research phase while on a road trip.
Staying out of debt and high cost of living were certainly two main reasons that brought us to this choice. Being able to express our creativity building our own house was also empowering for us.

How did you decide on a Dwarf stove?

We heard lots of good things about Dwarf stoves from other "tiny dwellers”. Ultimately the quality and customer service sold us on forking out for a Dwarf.

How difficult was the installation process? Did you need any assistance of any kind?

Like many carpenters, I despise instructions, but knew they are a necessary evil with many building components. Fortunately, Tiny Wood Stove offered many instructional videos to compliment their clear instructions with pictures! No IKEA hieroglyphics there! They know what the DYI community demands...quality, affordability, good looks, user friendly website packed with relevant information, and great customer service.
I would classify myself as a seasoned carpenter, but I never installed a wood stove before. At first I was convinced that a wall exit flue system was the best design for our little house, but reached out to TWS for s second opinion. Cody (aka the TWS flue designing ninja) was readily getting back to me. We spoke over phone and email, he patiently laid out the pros and cons of each set up. Ultimately, we chose the roof exit flue system, and we are happy we did as it performs great.

How has your experience been using the Dwarf? Have you been enjoying having a tiny wood stove in your space?

There is something magical about heating a home with a wood stove. As much as we appreciate our mini-split for back up heat and cooling, we sure don’t like looking at it! This is the magic of a wood stove, it warms you up and it’s beautiful to be around. Our Dwarf stove has a large piece of glass on the door and we find ourselves many mornings just sitting in front of it, watching the ancient dance of flame and ember.

It is a fairly small stoves, but it generates enough heat to the point where on most winter days (outside temp of 30s) we only need to do one hot fire in the morning (let it burn out) and one more around dinner time, and we are comfortable all day and night. Because of its size, hope of getting an overnight burn is not realistic.
But fret not my tiny dweller friends, we still wake up the next morning to house temperature of 62-64 degrees.

Would you recommend a tiny wood stove to others?

We definitely recommend a tiny wood stove, for sustainability (especially if you gather wood from already fallen trees, or do the heavy work yourself), atmosphere, and as a double source of heat. Heating with electricity, oil or propane, ties a homeowner into an unstable and expensive market. Not to mention, depending on fossil fuel. Heating with a wood stove empowers the homeowner to be self reliant on generating heat. There is a lot of sweat in the process, but it has personally made us so grateful for the woodlands that surround us.
