Direct Air kits are designed to fit the Dwarf 3kW, Dwarf 4kW, and Dwarf 5kw stoves. The Dwarf 3kW LITE stove is not compatible with the direct air. If you have a legacy Dwarf stove (one with a single air control lever on the bottom instead of two), the direct air for the Dwarf 3kW is backward compatible with your stove.
The female end of our 3″ single-wall stovepipe fits nicely over the inlet of our Direct-Air kit and can be used to make the connection between the direct air box and our outside air supply. Alternatively, you can use 3″ flexible aluminum dryer vent.
Compatibility
Single Wall Rear Exit Tee: The Direct Air intake has a close fit when used in conjunction with the rear exit tees on some stoves.
- Dwarf 3kW: Flatten the handle on the rear exit tee cap or cut it off to fit the direct air intake underneath. You’ll need to remove the direct air intake box to be able to remove the tee cap for flue cleaning.
- Dwarf 4kW: You may need to flatten the handle on the rear exit tee cap to be able to remove the cap for flue cleaning without needing to remove the direct air intake box.
- Dwarf 5kW: No modification necessary.
Double Wall Insulated Tee: The double wall insulated tee takes up more space than the single wall tee but it’s still possible to fit the direct air intake and the tee on your stove together.
- Dwarf 3kW: A very, very tight fit. You’ll only be able to fit the double wall insulated tee on the back of your stove with the direct air intake box if you cut off the post on the tee cap and plug the hole with high heat silicone. You’ll then be able to fit the two together and will just need to remove the direct air intake box to be able to remove the tee cap for flue cleaning.
- Dwarf 4kW: It will be a tight fit to get the tee cap on and off during flue cleaning but it can be done. Alternatively, you can remove the direct air intake to make cap removal easier.
- Dwarf 5kW: No modification necessary.
Heat Shields: When installing the Stove Heat Shield in conjunction with the Direct Air Intake kit, you may need to loosen the direct air a bit to slip the heat shield into place between the stove and direct air box.

Is this attachment compatible with the Dwarf Wood Storage Stands, or must it be paired with stove legs only?

Yes, the Direct Air Intake box can be used with the wood storage stand. There is a cutout in the back of the storage stand to allow them to work together.

Ryan- The direct air intake box (the piece that bolts to the stove to convert the air intake to a 3″ air duct) is pictured on this product page, in the top left of your screen. You need to supply the pipe and some sort of screen or hood for the outside of your structure, since that’s not included. 3″ metal dryer vent works well, or you can use our 3″ single-wall stovepipe for the air duct. If you’re terminating your pipe downward, it should be covered in 1/4″ hardware cloth to keep animals from entering the pipe. If you’re terminating your pipe horizontally, then you’ll likely want some sort of hood to keep wind and rain out of the pipe.

Question

Can I use both the heat shields and the air intake box or is it one or the other?

Shelley-
Yes, you can use the direct air with the heat shield option. It’s a tight fit so it’s best to install the shield first and then bolt on the direct air so that you can squeeze the rear shield between the direct air unit and rear of the stove.

Question
Dave –
How does the direct air intake effect the oven attachment?
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Cody Hennigan –
Dave-
The new oven design will not incorporate the flue gasses of the stove and will be completely heated by direct radiant heat from the stove below so won’t be impacted by the direct air intake. I hope that answers your question but if not, please feel free to reach out to us at Support@TinyWoodStove.com
Thank you!
