The shield stands 1″ away from the sides and back of the stove. Clearances are measured from the stove body (behind the shield) to the nearest combustible material in all directions.
Includes three panels (left, right, and rear) with mounting brackets, required hardware, and an allen wrench. Stove sold separately.

Does not work with the rear exit option unless you cut a hole in the shield. Does not work with the Dwarf 3kW LITE or legacy Dwarf models unless you drill your own mounting holes in the stove body. If you’re not sure which model you have, check the left or right side of the stove for the four allen head accessory mounting screws. If there are none, you’ll need to drill your own holes.

Good question! This kit is designed to use the top exit out of the box, but you do have some options if you want to use a rear exit.
To use a rear exit with the current heat shield, you can cut a hole in the rear of the shield for the pipe to pass through. If you do that, you may want to use an insulated tee as your rear exit instead of the standard single-wall rear exit kit. The clearances required for the single-wall rear exit kit would likely negate the benefit of using the heat shield kit unless you added additional shielding around the pipe.
Alternatively, if you want to use the heat shield kit on just the sides of the stove and not use it on the back, you can just assemble the kit without adding the rear panel. That would leave the rear of the stove clear to accept a rear exit kit. Again, you’d want to be mindful of the clearances required around the pipe and the rear of the stove, and you may need to add some custom shielding to the pipe.
Depending on the level of interest, we may add some additional products in the future like pre-fabricated heat shields for pipes, as well as a different rear panel for the heat shield kit to use with a rear exit. However, it may be some time before those are available. In the meantime, cutting single-wall pipe in the next size up works great for making pipe-mounted shields.

Good question. The way that Dwarf Heat Shield Kit is designed, the side shields attach to the sides of the stove, and then the back panel attaches to the side panels. So there’s no straightforward way of installing the rear panel without the side panels.
That’s not to say that an attached heat shield couldn’t be mounted to the rear, only that the Dwarf Heat Shield Kit does not do that out of the box. Others have made custom rear-attached shields with success using off-the-shelf 24 gauge (or thicker) steel. There are available mounting points on the rear of the stove (threaded M6 1.0) that you could use if you wanted to build a custom shield.

Thanks for the question, Kevin. The Dwarf 3kW LITE is the same size and output as the Dwarf 3kW Standard, so the heat shield is the right size and would be equally effective. But the 3kW LITE does not come with accessory mounting points like the 3kW Standard does. So if you want to install a heat shield on your 3kW LITE, you’ll need to drill/tap some holes in the stove body to mount it.

When the attached heat shield reduces the required clearances by 50% will adding additional types (air, fiber cement, insulated) of shields further reduce the clearance requirements? i.e. would this shield and an air cooled heat shield properly installed on a wall reduce the clearance by 2/3 of 50%?

Ryan, this is a common question, especially from folks with very tight spaces. While logically it makes sense that the heat would be even better dispersed by combining two heat shields, the NFPA doesn’t provide any guidelines or testing data on the protection that can be achieved by combining heat shields. We haven’t done any independent testing either so I’d recommend sticking with the required clearances for an individual heat shield.

Do the heat shields create air movement around the stove? Whereby, the area between the stove and plates becomes heated and rises; sucking cooler air from the bottom of the plate and warmer air rising from the top of the plate? And would this constantly moving air past the body of the stove cool the stove? Or am I just understanding what the purpose of the shields are and not just a protector from the hot stove?

Thanks for the message! Yes, the heat shields mounted to either the wall or stove create a convection of air that lowers the temperatures the nearby combustibles are exposed to. The stove-mounted heat shields don’t reduce the temperature of the stove itself but the heat shields will be a lower temp than the stove thus the combustibles are exposed to a lower temp metal.
