Air-cooled heat shields are one of the most popular tools for safely fitting a wood stove in a small space. These air-cooled heat shields are built from the same black painted 0.64 mm (22 gauge) carbon steel as our single-wall stovepipe. When installed with the included 1″ standoffs between the stove pipe and a combustible surface, this shield design meets the NFPA-211 specifications for an air-cooled heat shield to reduce wall clearances by up to 2/3, or ceiling clearances by up to 1/2.
Each shield is 32 inches long, and includes six heavy-duty heat-safe screws and 1 inch spacers for mounting directly to your single-wall stovepipe. Shields can be cut to size, and multiple shields can be overlapped to build a longer continuous shield.
Because of the upward convection current created by a vertical pipe-mounted heat shield, we recommend converting to insulated pipe no less than 10 inches away from the ceiling when using this product in a vertical orientation.
