Stunning Pallet Cob Ceremonial Space

"The Dwarf is attractive, space-saving, and really warms up a small space quickly. "

Josh Burg and Sara Crippen, the faces behind Clay Sand Soul, are devoted to promoting tiny spaces and sustainable building across the United States. Through their business, they offer workshops and build small, environmentally conscious structures using traditional techniques.

They've installed a Dwarf in a Pallet Cob Ceremonial Space built with @terratheta.works and designed by Valerie Østvik, and it's not just a stunning building but a piece of art, in our humble opinion

Josh Burg and Sara Crippen are not just advocates of tiny spaces; they are pioneers in the field through their business, Clay Sand Soul, which specializes in natural building across the United States.
At the heart of their philosophy is a commitment to techniques that our ancestors relied on, including but not limited to: pallet cob, cob, strawbale, light clay straw, lath & plaster, earthen plasters, lime plasters earthen floors, naturally pigmented paints, reciprocal roofs and living roofs.
From their base in the Pacific Northwest, they teach and build using materials and methods like cob, strawbale, and light clay straw, focusing on small (<200 sq ft) structures that are not just environmentally friendly but also culturally significant.

We talked to Sara and Josh about their building philosphy, their experience installing a Dwarf Stove into their most recent building and their relying on a wood stove in the southern Utah desert (which can be surprisingly chilly and windy).

Installation and Use

Sara and Josh's install is unique, but the install of their Tiny Wood Stove was still straightforward with clear instructions from the Dwarf manual and responsive customer support from Tiny Wood Stove. Although the installation required patience, "as do all installations where one needs to follow instructions". They created a setup that's both efficient for their space, and meets all safety requirements thanks to the Tiny Wood Stove and Pipe Heat Shields.

"We found the instructions thorough and the two times I called customer service to double check if I was understanding a particular detail, the folks at Tiny Wood Stove were helpful."

Using the Dwarf stove has been a great experience for Josh and Sara. They've learned how to cure the stove and manage the most efficient draft and air control settings though the Tiny Wood Stove manual and manage a clean and efficient burn for their building.

We especially enjoy being able to view the fire through the glass door; an element essential to any ceremonial space.

The stove operates cleanly and efficiently, with minimal smoke emission—an essential feature for maintaining the purity of the ceremonial space.

Recommending the Tiny Wood Stove

Josh and Sara highly recommend the Dwarf Stove for anyone looking to upgrade their small spaces.
It's powerful despite it's compact design, heats up quickly and maintains warmth.
For them, the stove is not just a source of heat but a fitting addition to a lifestyle that values sustainability, efficiency, and style.
