Julie and her husband built their truly unique and cozy tea house on their property among the redwoods. They are staying cozy during game night with their Dwarf 3kw
Who are you? Tell us something about you!
We live in Northern Humboldt County on a beautiful six acre parcel of second growth redwoods. David worked as a carpenter in construction, and has spent the past 45 years developing the property, making clearings in the woods and building structures primarily from the timber harvest. In the last couple of years I sold my all-consuming business of 30 years and now have more time to participate in maintaining the property. This is resulting in some interesting collaborations and our latest project is the Teahouse by the pond!
Where did you install your Tiny Wood Stove?
The Tiny-3KW stove is installed in our 9x9’ fiberglass and timber Teahouse (yoga, meditation, guest room, gambling den😊). The structure is in shade all winter, and except for the floor, uninsulated, so for the cold winter months, we also installed underfloor cable-heating so that the building could be used year round.
How did your tiny living journey begin and what were your reasons?
Although as an infant I lived in a horse drawn caravan with my parents, and in a friends tiny closet at one point along the way, we are now fortunate to have the best of all worlds - although this little building is tiny, we also have other buildings to stretch out into. Both of us are interested in tiny homes and all that they offer to people in terms of independence, mobility and especially for young people, the ability to own your own home at a time when home ownership is so prohibitively expensive.
How did you decide on a Dwarf stove?
Researching online the stove was very good looking and functional and clearly had the best designed stovepipe kit.
How difficult was the installation process? Did you need any assistance of any kind?
David had previously installed stoves and as the installation kit was so well thought out, it was relatively easy with myself as the assistant.
How has your experience been using the Dwarf? Have you been enjoying having a tiny wood stove in your space?
It’s a fabulous little stove, just as well designed as the best large stoves that we have used. The draft controls are really functional and the stove is super responsive. It lights up in a flash and so long as you have plenty of tiny kindling and logs at hand, puts out lots of heat.
Would you recommend a tiny wood stove to others?
We already have recommended it to others! The stove is well designed and the Tiny Wood Stove team are super helpful too.
Would you like to add anything?
Our little Teahouse structure is unique and more of a sculpture than a practical building! As mentioned we added underfloor electric heating to comfortably use the space year-round. A well-insulated space of this size in our climate would be very well heated by this tiny stove.
