Installing the Riddling Grate

How to Install the Riddling Grate

The riddling grate is the circular center of the fire grate which can be rotated back and forth using the riddling grate handle to agitate and drop ash into the ash pan below. This part is not attached to the fire grate and can be removed/reinstalled. It can take a little fiddling so take your time and be patient.

Setup (for all stoves):

  1. Make sure your stove is cool to the touch
  2. Remove ash pan & coal bar
  3. Fire grate should be in stove without riddling grate

3kW Standard:

The riddling grate handle and riddling grate are two separate parts and since they are not fixed together you’ll insert the handle through the front of the stove and place the riddling grate inside of the stove and attach them together on the interior.

  1. Insert riddling grate handle, short leg first, into the stove from the front through the small hole just left of the door
  2. Position the riddling grate onto the fire grate at a slight angle with the attached arm extended downward slightly towards the short leg of the inserted riddling grate handle (inside the stove).
  3. Insert short leg of the riddling grate handle into the hole on the end of the riddling grate arm
  4. Once connected, level and position riddling grate into the open circle of the fire grate
  5. Test riddling grate handle by pulling out/pushing in of the handle to ensure smooth rotation of the riddling grate (the handle should fully extend)

4kW/5kW:

The handle and riddling grate are fixed together so you’ll need to remove the knob from the handle and insert both the rod and riddling grate into the interior of the stove and push the bare end of the handle back out through the small opening on the front of the stove.

  1. Take off the riddling grate handle knob by turning it counterclockwise.
  2. Position the riddling grate over the circle in the fire grate at an angle so you can maneuver the handle down through the circle and towards the front left of the stove
  3. Locate the guide bolt on the left interior wall of the stove just below the front hole where the handle inserts
  4. With the handle and riddling grate positioned (still at a slight angle), slightly lift the left side of the fire grate up, then guide the end of the bare handle alongside in interior of the stove above the guide bolt and through the hole on the front of the stove.
    • HINT: It is possible to guide the handle into position without lifting up/tilting the fire grate but this step allows for an easier alignment of the bare handle end through the hole on the front.
  5. Once the end of the bare handle is through the hole, position the riddling grate into the circle of the fire grate and lower the whole fire grate assembly back into a level position inside the stove. This should push more of the bare handle out through the hole.
  6. Reattach the riddling grate handle knob.
  7. Test riddling grate handle by pulling out/pushing in of the handle to ensure smooth rotation of the riddling grate (the handle should fully extend)
