Built for the Road Less Traveled

We built the Dwarf Stove to solve a problem. When setting up our 1966 Airstream adventure trailer, we needed a compact wood stove that was efficient, affordable, and made for off-grid heat. Everything we found was either missing key features, beyond our budget, or designed for much larger spaces.

So we set out to create the perfect stove for small spaces!

The Dwarf 5kW wood stove is built specifically for small spaces. It’s ideal for RVs, trailers, vans, skoolies, yurts, and other tiny setups where you want efficient, dry heat during your travels or weekend getaways.

Clearance Requirements

  • 16 inches on the sides
  • 18 inches at the rear
  • 36 inches from the top to the ceiling

You can reduce clearances by up to two-thirds with proper heat shielding. Read about heat shield options and clearance reductions here.

Construction and Functionality

Body
Made from thick steel plate, between 3/16 inch and 5/16 inch, for strength and durability in tough travel conditions.

Door
Cast iron with a large viewing window for a cozy, radiant heat source and optimal heat retention (cast iron remains hot much longer than steel)

Flue Outlet
The Dwarf 5kW uses a 5″ flue exit that you can set up to exit out either the top or rear of the stove.

Air Controls
Separate controls for primary and secondary air below the firebox. A tertiary air wash above the door keeps the glass clean and helps the fire burn more efficiently.

Firebox
Made of cast iron and lined with refractory fire brick for even heat and long life.

Ash Management
The riddling grate lets you sift ash into the removable pan with a simple lever. No need to dig it out with a shovel.

Retrofit the Oven on an Existing Dwarf 5kW Stove

The Dwarf Baking Oven can easily be added to a Dwarf 5kW stove later. If you are installing a Dwarf 5kW but planning ahead for a future addition of the Dwarf Oven, it makes sense to plan your installation, knowing that you’ll later be adding the oven. Here are three options:

  1. Order the Compact Rear Exit Tee with your stove. Install your flue using this component and when your oven arrives, all you’ll need to do is bolt it on top. The oven comes with another compact rear exit tee packed inside so you may ship this back for a refund. We don’t uncrate the ovens before shipping so we cannot remove the extra tee prior to shipping.
  2. Install your stove using the top exit flue flange until the oven comes. Once you get the oven and install the included compact rear exit tee, you’ll need to move your stove about 6″ forward to ensure you still have proper clearances behind the stove since the tee extends about 6″ from the back of the stove. Plan your hearth with this in mind.
  3. Order a standard rear exit tee and install your stove using this with the rear flue flange. Once you get the oven, swap out the standard rear exit tee for the included compact rear exit tee. You’ll need to move your stove back by about 2″ since the compact rear exit tee takes up less space and you want to align it with your installed flue pipe. You won’t be able to return your standard rear exit tee since it will be used.

If you already have your Dwarf 5kW stove installed and are unable to shift it forward or back to accommodate the change in flue routing, a 90 Degree Adjustable Elbow can be added to your flue to offset your pipe by about 2″ or two 45-degree elbows can be used to offset by about 4″.
