🌟We’re interrupting our regular scheduled content for an important post-season reminder: Don’t forget your stove maintenance! 🔥
With days becoming longer and fires becoming shorter and less regular, don’t forget to care for your stove so it’s ready for that surprise first frost in a couple of months.
Not sure what’s part of a Tiny Wood Stove maintenance routine? Don’t worry, we have a nifty overview in our highlights!

Get your maintenance set today and thank yourself once pumpkin spice everything season is here.

Here are the most important things to look out for:
🧹 Clean your flue, and if you have heavy creosote buildup use a creosote remover log before. That way you don’t have worry about the safety of your flue come fall.
🧹 Check all screws, bolts and connections. Off-season also means you won’t automatically inspect those while using, and you want to prevent bolts or connections coming loose on a bumpy washboard road.
🧹 Check your firebricks for cracks and chips. Now is the time to replace them if needed!
🧹 Stow your exterior flue, if you don’t need it. That way you prevent wear and tear and a bird family finding refuge if you won’t be using the stove for a couple of months.
🧹 Check your seals (use the dollar bill test!) and exchange your gasket if needed.
🧹 How does your glass look? Give it a deep clean (newspaper dipped in ashes works great, or dirt eraser). This is the one part that you can’t use your stove without, so better have a backup one if you have the space for it!

⤴ Working with eaves and soffits ⁣
If you need to use a wall exit (because for example you have an upper level or cabinets you can’t work around 🤨), but also have an eave or soffit to work with a Tiny Wood Stove setup might seem daunting. ⁣
🔥But it’s actually fairly simple to work around, you just have to plan accordingly (our stove experts are happy to help!). ⁣
There are two options on how to work around eaves with your Tiny Wood Stove setup: ⁣
➡➡ If you don't have to extend too far away from the exterior wall to miss the soffit, you can just us a 20" piece through the wall instead of a 10", and build some additional blocking to mount the tee support on to. Or you can use only one set of bolts on the tee support bracket to get yourself a few extra inches off the wall⁣
⤴ The other option is to use two 30 degree insulated elbows to extend your chimney away from the exterior wall at some point above the tee support, usually as high as possible but just low enough to clear the soffit. ⁣

You’ve calculated the best size Tiny Wood Stove

You’ve calculated the best size Tiny Wood Stove for your home (check out our convenient flue size calculator!), created the perfect flue pipe setup (with the help of Floo, our friendly flue pipe calculator) and talked to our stove experts about your questions. Now you just have to translate it into real life! 🙌✨⁣
To make sure your stove and pipe fits your home, set up your parts before cutting a hole in your roof or cutting telescoping pipe to fit. ⁣
First, place your stove to its location and check the spot in your roof where you need to cut the hole for the flue pipe for obstructions, rafters, or similar. The easiest way to do this is by shining a flashlight through the flue pope opening of the stove (we have a great video linked in our stories!). ⁣
Assemble the stove and parts of the flue pipe, including the offset if you have one and make sure you have enough pipe.⁣
Before you cut the hole in your roof you should have everything you need ready to go, and allow a couple of hours of clear skies to make sure you have your roof sealed before it rains.☔⁣

“We spent 5 years restoring and converting the van into a vintage gypsy wagon / woodland themed camper that would enable us to make money to travel full time by hiring it out, and give our guests a unique experience of van living. Everyone has loved cosying up by the crackling fire, something not many people from cities have ever experienced before.
We also travel in our own camper van and have recently returned from a trip to the east of Turkey, Georgia and Armenia where temperatures reached -23°C in the Caucasus mountains- we were very grateful for our wood burning stove! TL;DR: It’ll probably help with long, consistent and efficient fires 🔥

We generally recommend a direct-air intake for all Tiny Wood Stove setups to improve the fire quality.
If your space is well-sealed (for example Tiny House builds, well-insulated box like campers or energy efficient cabins) it helps provide enough fresh air without cracking a window 🔥
In a drafty space (for example older cabins, vans, vintage trailers) it cuts down on the draft by bringing outside air directly into the fire rather than sucking it across your living space through all the cracks in your windows and doors 💨
