What's the pre-season checklist?
Like every other appliance, your Tiny Wood Stove needs some maintenance to keep your home cozy, warm and safe. After a long and adventurous summer and before fall greets us with some chilly mornings, we need to make sure your stove is up for the job. That includes regular maintenance of the gaskets, screws, firebricks and other components as well as a quick clean to make sure no summer visitors made themselves comfortable.

Inspect your flue system
Yes, this step involves getting up on the roof, unless you have a wall exit.
Look for any cracking or gaps in the sealant around the pipe boot, check the pipe boot for any cracks or damage and make sure clamps are tight (and enjoy the view while you're up there).
Clean your flue system
Let's be honest, do you remember the last time you cleaned your flue system before your stove became more of a display case for sunscreen and fresh flowers?
Cleaning your flue system is one of the most important parts of stove maintenance. Even if you cleaned it just before the summer, bumpy roads and sometimes even animals might have introduced or shaken up dirt and soot.
Give your flue system a thorough clean to make sure it's ready for the first fire of the season!
Check your gaskets
Replacing door and window gaskets is part of the regular maintenance of a wood stove. Over time, the gaskets compress and wear out and need to be replaced. We recommend checking the airtightness of your door and glass gaskets annually as part of an off-season maintenance routine.
Did you know there's an easy way to check the fit of your gaskets, and you only need a dollar bill?
And don't forget about your glass gasket! The process for checking your glass gasket is just the same as replacing the door gasket. The only difference is that the window gasket replacement kit uses a smaller gasket rope and you won’t need to adjust the door handle if only replacing the window gasket.

Make sure nothing is loose, wiggly or broken
This doesn't just apply to homes which are occasionally driving down some National Forest roads. You should check your stove setup for anything broken, wiggly or loose at least as part of your pre-season maintenance, more often if you have a moving home.
Make sure to tighten loose screws on the flue, the feet of the stove, your chimney cap and your handle.
Check your firebrick for cracks and replace it if it's broken.
Inspect your stove cement, make sure it's not cracked and fix it where needed.
