Meet Brook Wendorf, founder of a nature-based forest school on 14 wooded acres in Abrams, Wisconsin. A Tiny Wood Stove keeps her "Warming Shack" cozy through brutal Midwest winters.
With no electricity or gas on site, Brook turned to off-grid wood heat to give students a warm, dry space for story time and snacks between outdoor lessons. In this interview, she shares how her Tiny Wood Stove transformed forest school life, from harvesting her own firewood with students to baking cinnamon rolls in the stove's built-in oven. Discover how tiny-space heating solutions can support big educational dreams — and why she says she "wouldn't change a thing."
Who are you? Tell us something about your tiny space!
My name is Greg. I am a married retired physician-scientist of Finnish heritage now residing in Maine.
Where did you install your stove?
We built a traditional Finnish sauna at our cottage on a lake in coastal Maine
How did you decide on a Dwarf stove?
We wanted a small efficient stove for a traditional wood-fire sauna. Many of the stoves we looked at were too big and most of the small stoves were of low quality. The Tiny Dwarf came with heat shields, as a complete installation! Perfect our sauna!
How difficult was the installation process?
It was very straightforward— a single day!
How has your experience been using the Dwarf?
It is just about perfect! It takes about an hour to get the sauna to about 140 degrees in mid-winter! We are using it every day!
Would you recommend a Tiny Wood Stove to others?
The stove is very well designed and constructed. The customer service was spectacular! We are very happy with our purchase and application! Minulla on hÿvä sauna!
