Vintage Airstream in Alaska with a Tiny Wood Stove

"We have used both propane and diesel heaters in the past and would never consider going back!"

Kendal and Collin installed a Dwarf 5kw in their vintage Airstream for a cozy and warm Alaska winter. They are living in their off-grid trailer full time and through all seasons in the great white North.

Who are you? Tell us something about your tiny living journey!

We’re Kendal & Collin - Alaskan photographers living in our Airstream with our Husky, Bailey.

We installed our stove in our 2018 Airstream Classic 33. We live in Alaska and spend much of the winter off-grid, so we regularly see temperatures well below zero!

How did your tiny living journey begin and what were your reasons?

We began living tiny in 2019 in our Airstream. We spent the first couple of years traveling around the southwest and across the states, then we moved up to Alaska in 2021! We love living tiny because we believe you will use whatever amount of space you give yourself and our space encourages us to spend as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors.

How did you decide on a Dwarf stove?

After researching, we believed that the Dwarf Stove was most capable of heating our Airstream in the extreme cold conditions that we face in Alaska.

How difficult was the installation process? Did you need any assistance of any kind?

The installation process was not difficult, though it did require thorough preparation. We did not require assistance with the job, but reading installation instructions and watching YouTube videos from others who have installed their Dwarf stoves was immensely helpful.

How has your experience been using the Dwarf? Have you been enjoying having a tiny wood stove in your space?

We have LOVED having a dwarf stove in our space. It is easy to maintain and control a fire, the installation guidelines feel very safe, and the cozy feeling that can only come from a wood stove is indescribable. We have used both propane and diesel heaters in the past and would never consider going back!

Would you recommend a tiny wood stove to others?

We definitely would. Product support, build quality, reliability, ease of use, and aesthetic appearance have been stellar. Anyone willing to source wood and heat with a stove in a tiny space should consider a Dwarf!

More than anything else, the thorough instructions and ease of access to Tiny Wood Stove's team have made our transition to wood for heat in Alaska a stellar experience. Thank you!
